We do not want to select the option to encrypt a non-system partition/drive because this would prevent us from loading the files required to mount a TrueCrypt volume on our flash drive. The process of creating an encrypted file container for a flash drive is no different from the normal TrueCrypt process. We will move them to the encrypted volume once we are done. Only writes to encrypted volumes are allowed. Our endpoint security software denies writes on unencrypted volumes. Sarank_14: A TrueCrypt 'traveler disk' is an unencrypted volume. If this outer volume resides on a file based container within a FAT32 partition, the mentioned endpoint security software denies writes on this file. Noci: According to TrueCrypt documentation a hidden TrueCrypt volume can only be created within another TrueCrypt volume. In many cases it wouldn't be possible to install TrueCrypt or make registry modifications on other systems due to lack of administrative rights. Tolomir: Unfortunately we don't know in advance, on which external systems USB sticks are used. Unfortunately USB-Sticks (removable media) don't support multiple partitions. What I tried: I tried to configure an USB-Stick with two partitions: one FAT32-Partition which holds the TrueCrypt binaries and another partition which is encrypted by TrueCrypt. Due to this, "Traveler Disk Setup" within TrueCrypt doesn't work, as this is based on encrypted file containers, not completely encrypted partitions. Carrying the TrueCrypt software on the USB-Stick is not possible, since the complete USB-Drive is encrypted. Our problem: Those sticks have to be used on Computers without installed TrueCrypt software. This scenario works without any problems. With this solution we could configure that writing data on normally formatted USB-Sticks (FAT, FAT32) is denied, whereas writing data on partitions, which are formatted by TrueCrypt is allowed. Only TrueCrypt partitions ("Option: Encrypt a non-system partition/drive") are supported, no encrypted file containers ("Option: Create an encrypted file container"). We would like to implement an Endpoint Security Software on our Windows clients, which supports TrueCrypt encrypted partitions. ![]()
